Friday night's get pretty wild around here...sink bath!
Gotta be squeeky clean for Daddy when he gets home tonight :)
Stay tuned for a post featuring Julia...! She is stubborn about having her picture taken lately, but a good 'ol fashion show should help her come around!
A place where two of my very favourite things come together: my beautiful babies, and photography. Life simplified. Enjoy, I know I will!

Hello Handsome
My little man is coming up on 9 months. The time has gone by quickly but I am really enjoying watching my son grow into a little boy and the more his personality comes out the harder I fall in love. When Jack was born I didn't know what to expect having a boy, I didn't assume anything but I was curious as to what this would entail. Well, I have already discovered that I love having a boy! There is definitely a special mother-son connection and he is really just a little piece of my heart crawling around. I am so in love, and so excited to experience more of being a mom to this precious little boy. He is such a pleasant, sweet baby. I can't express enough of what a gentle soul he is. Right now he is mostly quiet and observant, but when he does come out of his shell, as he has been more and more, the house gets loud and rowdy!
He cut his first tooth and I just noticed today! I figured that was what was happening with him waking up at all hours of the night, wanting to be held all the time, and of course the buckets of drool that are coming out of him! Unfortunately that is probably tied in to him being sick as well, we just found out he has croup and despite a fever and a bad barky cough he is in very good spirits and a happy little guy. He is such a trooper and hardly ever complains about anything.
I love being a mom. Not just to a girl and a boy, but to Julia and Jack. They are amazing little people, and it is such a privilage to be home with them watching them grow. I'm enjoying every day, I wouldn't change my life for anything!

Play somethin country
Grandma called on Monday and asked if we wanted to go for a visit, and Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 we picked up Julia from a play date and hit the road.
Grandma and Grandpa's house is one of my favourite places. They live on a farm about 15 minutes out of Stettler, AB. I have so many memories in that house, I just love it. There is something to be said about the comforts of Grandma and Grandpa's house. The kids are thrilled to see their great-grandparents and they are very close to them. The days are spent eating delicious home-cooked food, playing outside and exploring, rides on the quad, reading, talking about everything under the sun, and for me a special treat- sleeping in! We all get a nice relaxing visit before heading back to the city life.
The drive to get to the farm is nice, but usually I am in somewhat of a rush to get there. The ride back is different...I am on my time, and there are very few hours spent this way. The sound of sleeping babies in the back, whatever music I am feeling to soothe my soul, the big open prairie sky and always little surprises on every trip. It is peaceful, and uplifting, reflective, but mostly inspiring. When I am driving I am filled with the inspiriation and ambition to do almost anything, and it is in these hours that I grow more as a person, and dreams are dreamt, plans are made, and paths are laid down.
This particular drive back was different, but it was actually a little treat in disguise. We were cruising along on Hwy 2 when the traffic backed up, and I mean it was BACKED up. The police re-routed us on a detour through Carstairs onto Hwy 2A. I thought all was good until I saw the traffic ahead that went on forever, and ever...and ever. Sooo...I turned the opposite way into the town, stopped for a bathroom break as we all know 3 year olds don't wait for traffic, picked up a bunch of snacks and drinks, changed the baby and topped him up and back on the road we went. We waited about 25 minutes going about 10 ft every 5 minutes until I saw a turn-off onto a dirt road. I contemplated for a minute, and BAM we turned off. I took the dirt road right to the end when I realized what I had just done- backtracked down the same highway. So needless to say, I turned the car around and headed back to where we turned off...until I came across another road running parallel to the highway...hmmm. We turned down and to my satisfaction this road cruised along parallel to the never-ending traffic. I couldn't believe nobody else had tried this. There wasn't another car in sight, or any indication that any other cars had taken this little secret road. I couldn't help but notice the beauty of the country-side, the canola was in full bloom and its rich yellow colour is truly stunning against the blue sky. I had to stop and take it in. The country is so quiet, it is so rich with patience. I took some pictures, watched some cows, and was lucky enough to see a lightning storm in the distance. When I got back in the car I drove slowly down the dirt road just taking it all in. Eventually I got back on the highway and headed home. What could have been a frustrating, miserable drive home turned into a nice surprise. I wish I had the patience to turn every day events into happy times like my detour in the country.

YAHOO!
| Theres Nana in the parade! |
We are just waiting for the little man to wake up and then we are off to a block party for the kids to celebrate the beginning of stampede! We have some pretty nice neighbors and it is a very friendly neighborhood, they have a petting zoo over there and all kinds of games and food the the kiddo's. After that we are off to Sneak-a-peak at the Calgary Stampede! Now that Nana is on the Stampede board we are Stampedin' our little hearts out. Can't wait to see the Grand Stand show this year, I hear its fantastic. That will be a busy night for sure, and then tomorrow morning we are VIP for the parade, aka not standing with a bazillion other people. We have to get cowboy'd/cowgirl'd up to be there so stay tuned for pictures. I love the Stampede, what an amazing way to bring the city together every year. I have so many great childhood memories of the events and I'm super stoked to share it all with my kids!

Jack's Crib
This is Jack's new room!
Thanks to Carrie Savard of Rock-a-baby Designs (www.myrockababydesigns.etsy.com) who custom made his crib set, the hand-painted wall letters, and custom art above his dresser. I love this fabric, I fell in love with it at first sight. Couldn't be happier with how it all turned out, its beautifully made, and it looks so good! I am really liking this "bedroom for sleeping" idea, keep it simple, very few toys, no distractions when trying to sleep- its great.
Julia's room is next, so stay tuned!

Summer Playlist
The objective for summer 2010 is to not waste a minute of it.
Amanda (check out her blog and awesome hand made items at monpetitshoo.blogspot.com ) made a list of their family's summer plans, and it got me to think about what I want to accomplish this summer, and the gears were really turning with ideas for activities and day trips to do with the kids!
We can already cross off the zoo, and the outdoor pool.
Places to go:
The Calgary Zoo
Bowview Outdoor Pool
Riley Park
North Glenmore Park
Butterfield Acres
Heritage Park
Kananaskis hikes
Biking along the Bow River
Calaway Park
Fish Creek Park
Sikome Lake
Tyrrell Museum
Things to do:
Hike in Banff or Kananaskis
Hit up the Farmer's Market once a week for fresh/local food!
Get a membership at the library
Go camping for a weekend
The Calgary Stampede!! We'll be checking out the Grand Stand Show and Rodeo
Get bikes so we can start biking!
Get a sprinkler for our backyard- sprinkler + bubble machine= cheap thrills that last for hours!
BBQ as much as possible!
We're going to use Jack as our alarm clock and learn to just get up and GO. No waiting around, doing a thousand little things and wasting time. If we plan something to do for the following day bags will be packed the night before along with lunches so we can get up, eat breakfast, get dressed and get in the car.
We have a trip to France planned with Jon's family at the end of August that we are very much looking forward to, it will definitely be a challenge with a preschooler + baby, but totally worth it! The biggest obstacle right now, however, is figuring out how to keep the "stuff" aka baby paraphernalia to a minimum without being stuck out there with a confused, jetlagged little boy and no comforts from home!
On top of all these fun activities we hope we can keep adding to our home and slowly picking away at decorating it and making it cozy. We are mostly done and all the boxes are unpacked, now it is a matter of getting it the way we want it! My biggest obstacle right now is picking pictures to print for all these beautiful frames I have sitting here.
We are anxiously waiting for visitors this summer! The Wray Family are at the top of the excitement scale for us, I think we are all having what can only be referred to as WRAY WITHDRAWAL. Julia often wonders out loud what Ella, Dom and Haylia are up too while we play at the park or eat breakfast. We miss you guys!
Last but not least, what are all of your thoughts on our family getting a dog? Among many reasons we have thought about while pondering the idea of adding another (furry) member to our family we have come to this point: Jon is going to be working out of town often, and a dog would be the best kind of security for our family while he is away. I know you're probably thinking a puppy is just another kid to take care of and clean up after, but puppies grow into dogs, and dogs are loyal and protective, not saying they are not work, but if we commit to that kind of work it will become part of our life. We are looking into Labrador Retrievers and will definitely do our research before making any decisions, if we do decide to add to our family it wouldn't be until 2011. Any opinions would be much appreciated!
